After the war, Irvin returned to New Kensington and took over a local clothing store, ascending from a stock boy to owner. Jonas's mother contributed to the war effort by working at Pittsburgh Plate Glass and continued until her retirement. In 1980, Jonas moved to Northern California to join The Branson School in Ross, aligning with his wife, Donna Mezias, who was attending Stanford Law School.
